My mother came to the United States from the Phillipines as a very young girl. She grasped the language quickly and learned to love her new California home. Her sisters and she helped their parents with the family business, earning the tuition to attend UC Berkley, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in political science. Throughout her career, she championed the causes of those who could not fight the system for themselves. For thirty years she helped form policy in Marin County and the state of California.
Her family has always been everything to her. Her parents, children and grandchildren were always the center of her universe and her home was open to all at any time. Cooking for her family and gardening were beloved pastimes. Her beloved yorkies were always by her side.
With so many of her loved ones still in California, video conferencing is an important part of the entire families' week. Help from team members to navigate the technology to facilitate these gatherings is greatly appreciated by us all.
